Origins of Expressionism

Expressionism originated more in physical art such as paintings, sculptures and print making in the early ninetenth century in Germany. It then morphed into more of a general art movement in literature, plays, and dance. Though this movement was more affluent in the 1920s some artists such as Vincent Van Goghs work are considered expressionist even though he was before the period. Though Expressionism did have it's time as an art movement, I would define it as more a style of art then anything else.
